First Two Weeks of High School Season Prove Positive for Lady Blazers
In the first two weeks of the 2016-2017 high school season, Blazers helped their teams to battle in a highly competitive set of games. Blazers positively impacted both sides of the ball accounting for steals, rebounds, assists and points. Kalanie Corkeron knocked down 17 points in Wilde Lake's win over South River High School in the county playday versus Anne Arundel County teams, Saturday, December 10. Kennedy Clark, of River Hill High School, knocked down 14 points and 22 points in her games this week. She continues to lead her team in scoring and all from the point guard position.
Twin forces, Lyric and Jaelyn Swann have the hottest start to the season of all Lady Blazer teams. Off to a 4-0 start, the Lightening has been paced by Lyric's defensive tenacity forcing several steals in their game versus Centennial and Northeast HS. Jaelyn has come off the bench and scored 11 points in the big win over Northeast HS.
Nia and Lindsay Thweatt are making headlines in their first year again, after an already remarkable soccer season. At 5-2, the Palotti Panthere are off to a strong start. Lindsay has been starting and Nia is first off the bench. The Thweatts are truly forces to be reckoned on both sides of the floor.
Satori Valentine has filled up all stat columns as the starting point guard at Mount Hebron. Twice she led her team in scoring this week with 11 and 8 points respectively in tough games versus Centennial and Howard High Schools. She averaged 4 assists in both games too. Amel Lightfoot led her team in the rival victory over Wilde Lake High School. Coming off the bench and ready to play, Lightfoot dropped 10 points to give her team (Oakland Mills High School) the edge in the game.
In Junior Varsity action, Anii Harris has been the starting point guard for Howard High School's junior varsity team. In their second victory, on Friday, December 16, Harris led her team with 15 points and chipped in several assists. For Oakland Mills High School, Lili Miranda has proven to be the shooter that teams are struggling to contain. Miranda had 19 points in her team's big win over Wilde Lake JV, and she filled it up on her team's first victory over Hammond High School on December 7. Lookin' great, Lady Blazers! Keep working!
